NWP Apprentice Ecologist Awards: 2005

All of the national and international youth volunteers that conducted their own environmental cleanup projects in 2005 as part of the Apprentice Ecologist Initiative™ can be found by visiting the Global Registry of Apprentice Ecologists. These youth volunteers, including those who are at-risk and disadvantaged, accomplished an amazing amount of work that will help to protect the integrity of ecosystems and the beauty of nature. They conducted their environmental cleanup efforts at beaches, lakes, rivers, mountains, parks, and neighborhoods in an effort to preserve the quality of our environment for the benefit of wildlife and for the health and enjoyment of future generations. We thank each and every volunteer that participated in 2005; they have made the world a better place!!!

The Nicodemus Wilderness Project staff has voted for the top Apprentice Ecologist projects of 2005 (based on project organization, participation, and essay) conducted in the United States and internationally. Categories were established based on age (pre-teen, teen, and college-age) and the number of awards in each category was based on the total number of participants (i.e., teens comprised about 60% of all projects in 2005 and so there were 6 national awards made to teens). The award for each author (project leader) of a selected project included a Nicodemus Wilderness Project 100% certified organic cotton t-shirt or tote bag, individual recognition on their web page, and group recognition with other 2005 award-winners on the front page of our web site for a period of one year. The following award-winning authors appear in alphabetical order.
